SUMMARY:Books\, Bodily Autonomy & the Ballot
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nPlease join Pro-Choice Washington for  \nBooks\, Bodily Autonomy & the Ballot: Abortion and Trans Rights in Culture and Policy \nWednesday\, September 30 | 7:00 p.m. | Town Hall Seattle \nEARLY BIRD TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW\n  \nJoin Pro-Choice Washington for an unforgettable evening with bestselling novelist Laurie Frankel\, whose acclaimed novels illuminate the deeply human stories behind the political threats to undermine bodily autonomy\, privacy\, and reproductive freedom. \nIn her newest novel\, Enormous Wings\, a 77-year-old Texas woman who finds herself at the center of a political and media frenzy when she experiences a fluke pregnancy. Frankel’s beloved novel This Is How It Always Is introduced readers to a Seattle family navigating love\, identity\, and the experience of raising a transgender daughter.  \nAuthor Laurie Frankel will discuss her two novels and the issues of bodily autonomy\, privacy\, and reproductive freedom.\nTogether\, these novels ask profound questions: Who deserves privacy? Who deserves agency? Who gets to decide what happens to their own body? These books are moving\, funny\, heartbreaking\, and ultimately hopeful. Frankel reminds us that policies debated in legislatures are lived by real people. \nThe evening will begin with a conversation featuring Laurie Frankel\, followed by a panel discussion with Pro-Choice Washington Executive Director Sami Alloy\, elected reproductive rights champions Washington Attorney General Nick Brown and Washington State Representative Monica Jurado Stonier\, alongside a Seattle abortion provider. Together\, they’ll explore how these themes are playing out beyond the page as we work to defend abortion access\, protect the privacy and dignity of transgender people\, and build a Northwest where everyone has the freedom to determine their own destiny. \nAs attacks on bodily autonomy intensify\, including ballot initiatives here in Washington targeting trans youth\, this conversation could not be more timely. As Pro-Choice Washington expands our work across the region\, we’re bringing together storytellers\, advocates\, and community members to imagine what’s possible and strengthen the movement for a future where every person can make deeply personal decisions with dignity\, privacy\, and compassion. \nWe hope you’ll join us for this powerful evening of literature\, conversation\, and action. \nClick the link below for more information and tickets.
